For most of my life, I've always thought if only I were a runner, I wouldn't have to worry about my weight. But, I'm not a runner and time kept ticking by. At the end of my 30's I made a great effort to lose a significant amount of weight and I felt great. But I still wasn't a runner (or an exerciser of any kind, really) and over the next few years, the weight crept back on.
Right around my 42nd birthday, I decided I was going to give it a shot. Because I still believed that if only I were a runner, this battle with weight would be so much easier. So...I bought a treadmill, a good pair of shoes and downloaded a couch to 5K program. I hated just about every step except the last one of every workout. But, I kept going and could actually feel myself making progress. I could run a littler farther and a little farther every time. I was recovering a little faster every time.
So...here I am now: I can "run" for 30 minutes without stopping. I'm still a 42 year old, overweight, out of shape woman. What do I do now? Do I keep going and attempt to be a real runner?
